Mother Monster reportedly spent five hours with the 41-year-old Australian activist/journalist at the Ecuadorian embassy in London, where he has resided since June. Assange sought political asylum at the embassy in a bid to avoid extradition to Sweden, where he would face questioning over sex crimes allegations.
Gaga, who has adopted gay rights and anti-bullying campaigns among her causes, spent time with the controversial whistle-blowing figure, whose supporters regard him as an activist for freedom of the press. And apparently, M.I.A. was there, too.
After Gaga tweeted she was off to Harrods department store in London, M.I.A. invited her to come join her and Assange for tea. "@ladygaga if ur at harrods today , come visit Assange at the Ecuador embassy across the st. im there. ill bring TEA and CAKE," she wrote.
Assange and many of his supporters believe that the Swedish sex-crimes case is a part of a U.S.-orchestrated plot to force Assange to stand trial in retaliation over WikiLeaks' move to publish thousands of secret U.S. diplomatic cables and documents.
