At this point, the boys of One Direction are well accustomed to being bombarded by feisty, overzealous fans, but one member of the group was hospitalized following a crazy confrontation with a whole other animal -- literally. Niall Horan was forced to undergo surgery to repair torn ligaments in his knee after he was attacked by a squirrel!

"A squirrel attacked me," the 1D member revealed to Capital FM. "I got attacked by a squirrel in Battersea Park. They're dangerous. It's rare. I've torn most of the ligaments in my knee. So no football for me. It's early retirement now. I've got a floating knee-cap!" Talk about a freak accident!

After being snapped by the paparazzi out and about on crutches, Niall took to his Twitter account to message his followers about his accident. "If ya see me hobblin around at teen awards! I'm sorry! Won't be as active as usual haahah," Niall tweeted ahead of Sunday's BBC Radio 1 Teen Awards. The singer managed to take the stage with his One Direction bandmates sans crutches for their performance at the awards show.

Revealing he maintains a good sense of humor about the whole debacle, Niall poked fun at his bum knee, writing, "My new move came out! The horan one leg hop."
