Whitney Houston Grammy Tribute Concert: Jennifer Hudson, Britney Spears and Usher Salute Fallen Icon

Last night, a special show paying tribute to Whitney Houston was taped at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Jennifer Hudson, Usher, Halle Berry and Britney Spears were among those present to perform and commemorate the singer's life at the event, entitled "We Will Always Love You: A Grammy Salute to Whitney Houston."

Hudson paid tribute to Houston earlier this year, after the singer's sudden death on the night prior to the Grammy Awards, and she took the stage again last night (Oct. 12). She performed a three-song medley of "I'm Every Woman," "How Will I Know" and "I Wanna Dance With Somebody." Her '80s Whitney-inspired look was a highlight of the evening.

Usher performed "I Believe in You and Me" and said, "Houston possessed one of the greatest voices we have heard in this lifetime. I will never forget her."

Both Halle and Britney gave emotional speeches in honor of the singer. Berry admitted that the "I Will Always Love You" singer inspired her as a girl to follow her dreams. "She inspired a generation of little girls and women to believe in their own dreams and to know that they had within themselves the greatest gift of all. I was one of those little girls who then became a woman who never ever, ever, stopped loving Whitney Houston," the actress said.

Spears revealed she actually performed a version of Houston's "I Have Nothing" to score her initial record deal. The event was also attended by Whitney's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and Clive Davis, the record executive credited with discovering Whitney.

Cece Winans and Yolanda Adams closed out the show with a performance of "Count on Me." Celine Dion, who was unable to attend the evnet, will record a rendition of "The Greatest Love of All" in Canada, which will be edited in with the other footage for the final show. The tribute will air on CBS on Nov. 13 at 10PM ET.

Houston died at age 48 due to accidental drowning, and complications from cocaine use and heart disease.

Danathony....no need to get so upset. The people on here that post those types of comments to stories like this are very sad individuals. Remember, although they post their shameful comments on here, when they look in the mirror they are disgusted with what they see. This is a nice story and although Whitney had issues in her life, she was an amazing and inspiring artist. We all have skeletons in our closet and the venom that comes from their less than important mouths are meaningless. I for one say a prayer for these types of people, they will never know what it is like to be admired, loved or respected.

Oh, its just so hard to be a celebrity....you get paid MILLIONS upon MILLIONS of dollars, to open your
stupid no talent mouth, and stuff crack and dope up your nose. Nobody understands how it is when you have
no talent, and people buy tickets to come to your concerts and just throw money at you, so that you can live a life
of luxury that most people can only dream of.....too selfish to get out of your own way and maybe go volunteer at
a battered womens shelter, or hospital, or nursing home and see how the real world lives. No, you'd rather just spend your money on nose candy, and complain how nobody understands. She's six feet under because ultimately, that is where she wanted to be. She knew the risks, she kept doing it because she probably figured she was too big to fail.....who needs her. For every one person who makes it to the top like she did, there are hundreds of others with more talent working their way up. She wouldn't have been anything anyway if she wasn't related to
Dionne Warwick.....a real talent, and a lady to boot. Too bad some of her class didn't rub off on Whitney.

Stars--They probably see stars from all the crack and other dope.
Why does someone idolize a person that doesn't work for a living. They all live in La La land doing play like games like when we were all little kids., and some people think they are wonderful.

My 21 year old granddaughter passed away last January. On heroin for 3 years. We tried everything to help her. She was just to far into it. Everytime we thought she was making a real effort to "clean up her act"..she was right back to it. Yes..she was a drug addict. But..we still love her and miss her.

How sweet is this? One drug infested looser being honored by the rest of her drug infested looser friends. Honor her, why because she was rich and sang? She took a gift from God and spit in his face! And we honor her??? Please somebody get me a shovel.

Yes lets pay tribute and idolize a woman who had everything and threw it all away for a life of drugs and booze with her lowlife husband. Congrats, way to go, every young woman should aspire to be just like you. NOT!!!!

OMG, if only the people that really meant something and gave something to the world would get some of the recognition that these overpaid drug and alcohol addicts get, the world would be so much better off. Get over it people and quit giving glamour to the dead druggies and maybe the younger generation wouldn't think this lifestyle was so grand. This really sickens me if you haven't caught on yet.

Everybody gives something to this world good or bad. She gave both. Sad as that sounds it is the truth. If her talent inspired one person then it is a gain. If her drug abuse/death kept one person from trying drugs that first time then it is a gain. What really sickens me is people that trash other people. She gave the whole world beauty and will continue to do so long after I am gone. It saddens me that she died and for the reasons she died. I will continue to admire her talent.

Whitney had choices and professionals that wanted to help but she let a man influence her into the world of drugs and she was locked in.She had 2 choices ,one was to go to the hospital and clean up and never go back to drugs of any kind(including Alcohol) she had an addiction and she had the money to fight that addiction. Too many famous people try ,use.get hooked and become addicts and not for their money would be bums laying on the streets begging ,stealing, killing or doing anything for a fix, that is a damn shame that people that made her famous could not control and help the poor souls from addiction.RIP
