Bette Midler 'Glee' Role: Entertainment Legend Set to Guest Star on Hit Musical Show

"Glee" has had some pretty impressive Hollywood hotshots appear as guest stars on the hit musical show. We loved Gwyneth Paltrow, Ricky Martin and Gloria Estefan, and this season's newest stars, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson, are certainly holding their own. But, co-creator Ryan Murphy's latest guest star announcement is probably our favorite to date. Murphy has asked none other than 66-year-old entertainer Bette Midler to join the cast!

Bette took the stage at the God's Love We Deliver Golden Hearts Awards event in New York on Monday (Oct. 15), and Ryan, who was in attendance at the charity event, took the opportunity to score a major star for his show! "I just asked the incredible Bette Midler to be on 'Glee' in front of 1,000 people," Murphy tweeted. "I hope she says yes!"

"And from the stage, @ryanmurphy invited me to guest on @Glee! I should get out more!!" Bette tweeted from her own account, confirming the offer.

Just a day later Murphy revealed, "Bette said yes! Amazing. I am plotting...who should she play?"

Well, it looks like fans of the fabulous Ms. Midler already have a character in mind for her big "Glee" debut. "Ok, @rpmurphy, I have one vote for Rachel's grandmother," Midler shared. "Hmmmm. I'm thinking, I'm thinking!!"

Rachel's grandmother sounds like a good one, but what other roles do you think Bette could play? Tweet us your ideas @aolmusic!

Why not have bette play Kurt's estranged grandmother...his mother's mother...or Bette playing herself as Kurt has found out that Bette Midler is actually her real life grandson..Kurt would probably drop dead.

I’m excited to hear that Bette Midler will be on Glee, I think the role of Rachel’s grandmother would be a great fit for her. She’s the perfect addition to the long list of legendary guest stars on the show. Glee has been one of my favorite shows this season, thanks to the suggestion of a DISH coworker. I like to record this on my Hopper with the PrimeTime Anytime feature. I set this feature up to record all prime time programming that comes on the four major networks. Its great not having to set up any individual timers for some of my favorite shows!
