Madonna, Russia Court Summons: Icon Ordered to Appear in Court for Promoting Gay Rights

Madonna has been using her MDNA world tour as a soapbox to amplify her views on such controversial subjects as gay rights, women's rights, freedom of speech and the U.S. presidential election. While her concert trek has not come without its fare share of backlash, the latest actions against Madonna are certainly the most severe. According to Sky News, the pop icon has been summonsed to appear in Russian court amid allegations she broke the country's laws against homosexuality and gay propaganda.

Madonna was slapped with a $10.5 million lawsuit by activists in St. Petersburg -- including the Union of Russian Citizens, the People's Assembly and the New Great Russia -- after speaking out in support of gay rights during her concert in the city this past August.

Madge urged concert-goers to wear the pink wristbands that were distributed at the show as a display of "love and appreciation to the gay community."

This wasn't the only instance of Madonna deliberately defying the Russian government. She recently called for the release of the convicted members of the Russian punk band, Pussy Riot and landed in hot water in France and was threatened with a lawsuit after superimposing a swastika over an image of French politician Marine Le Pen.

Neil...this is where you are wrong. Without getting you are anyone who is gay all upset and mad....being gay is not normal and you can find all the reasons to sayi it is. What do you mean you straight people? Most of us are not gay so it is you gays who are the minority. The majority of us folk are straight so DO NOT bash us straight people and how we think. AND....I find it funny you would use religion to hid behind saying God did not make mistakes. He made you yes, but you decided to be gay. God did not make you gay. I had a best friend who was gay......I know how he felt and we talked about it a lot. He hated the life style he was living and he actually wanted to have sex with me and marry me..I was married though. And so really..do not go there and do not use God to hid behind. Yes, we are all human but what you do does not mean it is right nor do any of us straight people as you called us have to accept what you do either as it just is not right.
