No Doubt, Video Controversy: 'Looking Hot' Music Video Comes Under Fire

No Doubt Music Video Pulled Eric Reed, Invision/AP

Uh oh! After releasing their "Looking Hot" music video earlier last month, No Doubt has pulled the video from YouTube after members of the Native American community complained about the Wild West-theme.

In the video, Gwen Stefani and bandmate Tony Kanal reportedly dress as Native Americans, dance in a teepee with a wolf and fight other members of the band dressed as cowboys. In another scene, Stefani is tied up by a sheriff character.

Some Native Americans were offended by the video, and the band apologized on their official website and pulled the video. The statement read: "As a multi-racial band our foundation is built upon both diversity and consideration for other cultures. Our intention with our new video was never to offend, hurt or trivialize Native American people, their culture or their history. Although we consulted with Native American friends and Native American studies experts at the University of California, we realize now that we have offended people."

The band's statement continued: "This is of great concern to us and we are removing the video immediately. The music that inspired us when we started the band, and the community of friends, family, and fans that surrounds us was built upon respect, unity and inclusiveness. We sincerely apologize to the Native American community and anyone else offended by this video. Being hurtful to anyone is simply not who we are."

The single was off the band's new album, Push and Shove.

It is more that the clothing and situations are misrepresenting the culture. And the situations in the video show and ignorance of Indigenous People. I don't think the white folks would like to be seen in Klu Klux Klan outfits or looking like Lil' Abner characters Nor would African Americans like to be seen as tap dancing Uncle Toms. When you are not authentic and use Hollywood stereotypes for any race it offends them.

So what's next, no more COWBOYS and INDIANS? You know there are historical records showing we had some conflicts. Political Correctness is SO boring.

As a white male, I would have to say that your uneducated opinion does not consider the 400 years of slavery and hate that was bestowed upon many indigenous cultures. "Whites" are predisposed to more opportunities for upward mobility in a very unfairly balanced social structure favoring "whites." So taking a little flack for having it made should not upset you, that is if you are well-educated and tolerant - both of which do not sound like descriptions of you whatsoever. Eye for an eye would be "whites" being dragged from their families, beaten, whipped, and forced into manual labor for years, followed by Jim Crow-like segregation/discrimination, followed by a social structure that is designed to keep you down.
