Taylor Swift's 'I Knew You Were Trouble' Vs. Rihanna's 'We Found Love': Did the Country Star Rip Off Ri's Video?

Theo Wargo/Getty

When we first watched the premiere of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble" video a few days back, there was something about it that seemed oddly familiar. The melodramatic voiceover in the beginning ... the flashbacks through a relationship gone wrong ... a random dance party in a field. All of these things seemed to be pretty blatantly borrowing from Rihanna's 2011 video for "We Found Love." Granted, Ri's video was more "Trainspotting" while Taylor's veers more closely into PG-13 territory, but still, the parallels are pretty obvious. Watch both videos below and decide for yourself. Did Tay rip off Ri? Tweet us your thoughts @aolmusic.

Swift needs to to steal a voice. She only has one type of song. And they all sound the same. The soft love voice. She has no range.

Swift didn't copy another female singer. She copied Nat King Cole.

Taylor Swift, singer, song writer, multi instrumentalist. Rihanna, tries to sing and walk at the same time and falls on her big duff. Swift doesn't need to steal anything from Rihanna. ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

ROFLMAO...she can play some instruments but not very well. Knowing how to use only 4 chords on a guitar doen't count in book, sorry it just doesn't. She is also known for stealing lyrics, so song writer goes out the window too.

Taylor, Britney, Miley, Bieber, IT IS all the same. Company constructed characters, music videos and music. Swift may be a little better because of her writing ability but her subject matter seems to be limited to boyfriend breakups. Bieber? just a flash in the pan. (See Bobby Sherman, David Cassidy ect.) Miley? Just low rent
hillbilly that found her way into town. Britney? Pretty to look at but thats about it. Can't sing and dumber than a bag of hammers. Christina Aguilera is the only multi-dimensional, real singer in the current crop and far above the others in talent .

What about Bruno Mars? Seems to have more talent than Christina Aguilera ever thought of having.

Taylor seems to be stealing a lot these days. I guess she's run out of ideas. All she knows is high school, so she's now stealing ideas.

Similar, sure… but both situations are similar. Rihanna's seems more to do with drug abuse where Taylor's had more to do with 'bad boys.' The similarity is in the downward spiral in life. If you just keep living on the outskirts of living well, with intention and purpose, nowhere and empty is where you end up. I saw two very different videos, both leading to a place of loss and regret.
