Backstreet Boys, Ryan Gosling: Actor Wanted to Be a Member of the Boy Band

As the Backstreet Boys celebrate their 20-year anniversary as a group, some juicy back story about the beloved boy band has surfaced. Apparently, none other than Hollywood heartthrob Ryan Gosling could have been a member of the harmonizing, synchronized-dancing group!

BSB member AJ McLean himself tells TMZ that he and Gosling go way back. They lived in the same apartment complex as the band was just forming and Gosling was getting his start as a pint-sized triple threat, acting, singing and dancing his tube socks off as a cast member on "The Mickey Mouse Club."

As the five-piece boy band started to make it big, Ryan wanted in and called up his pal AJ, but to no avail. AJ never answered poor little Ryan's calls!

"I want to say to Ryan Gosling, I am so sorry I didn't call you back, dude," AJ tells a TMZ camera, admitting he didn't have Gosling's digits at the time.

AJ then extended the invitation to Ryan to join the band as an honorary sixth member. "He can sing his a-s off. He's not only a great actor, and a handsome man, but he's a great singer."
