John Mayer Comeback Concert: Performer Sings Live for First Time in Almost Two Years (VIDEO)

John Mayer is back in the game. Following a strict singing ban, Mayer has made his comeback, performing in-concert for the first time in almost two years.

Mayer crooned tunes at a special charity concert, "The Livingston Town Proper: A Concert to Benefit the Fighters of the Pine Creek Fire," which he orchestrated as a thank you to the firefighters who fought to put out last summer's massive Pine Creek Fire in Livingston, Mont.

The Jan. 16 show marked the first time Mayer has sung live in-concert since April 1, 2011. "I don't have a ton of range ... I'm a 70-year-old version of myself," Mayer told the crowd. "Lower your expectations."

John was set to hit the road in March 2012, after recovering from a throat granuloma, but the tour was canceled and his hiatus prolonged when the granuloma returned. He underwent a second surgery and embarked on what he described as a "six-month period of extreme self-discipline."

"There's no talking for the first month -- and then, there's whispering," John told NPR back in May 2012. While Mayer was living "Like a monk," he was banned for singing for a six-month period and resorted to communicating via notebook and iPad messages.

Mayer sang tunes off his latest album, Born and Raised, and the concert at the Emerson Theater in downtown Bozeman included guests like Zac Brown and Clay Cook from Zac Brown Band.

John, who has a home nearby the fire-devastated area, raised more than $100,000 with the concert, which will benefit the firefighters who were on the scene.

John Mayer is a super-talented young man, a purist, always a class act. Durrene and I and our boys saw him at the Creek outside Raleigh a few years back as warm-up act for Bob Dylan. Neither one of these showboats are shabby acts. At the time I didn't know much about Mayer except that his guitar chops were sensational. Glad he's rebounding. Hope he'll be on tour on the Southeast Coast again soon.

He sounds like he is drunk! He really needs to take another 2 years off and try again. He is just an ok singer. Listen to someone like Richard Marx and his tallent to see where John should be by now.

Maybe by that time you'll have your own chart-topping tunes out. Be looking for that. Please send me some of your new stuff when your mail and shipping department catches up.

Good to hear his voice again. Lucky man to be able to cure the granuloma.
