GENEVA (AP) - Tina Turner is on her way to becoming a Swiss citizen.

The American rock diva has lived in the Zurich suburb of Kuesnacht since the mid-1990s. The local Zuerichsee-Zeitung newspaper said on its website the local council announced its decision to grant the 73-year-old Turner citizenship in an official notice published in Friday's edition.

The decision still requires formal approval from cantonal (state) and federal authorities.

C'mon Tina, you don't forsake the country who made you who you are, we all have to pay our fair portion of taxes. On the other hand Switzerland is a beautiful place to live out the rest of your life. I hope you're happy Tina.

It was not as if she just decided to pack her bags and go. Tina has been living in Switzerland for 20 years, I highly doubt that this decision is based on taxes. I think that is a ridiculous assumption made by many on this discussion. I mean, she will have to pay taxes in Switzerland, too.

In reading the comments/reactions of people to Tina's PERSONAL decision. I didn't get the memo that says that just because someone is a Celebrity how/when/where they choose to lead their personal lives is up for public critique. First Beyonce choosing to lipsync, now Tina's choice of citizenship and people are personally offended and incensed! Tina Turner is 73yrs old, speaks fluent German, has lived with her primary residence in Switzerland since the early 90's, and is in a longtime relationship with a German man (35yrs her junior ... 3:) ... you GO Miss Tina!!!) if she wants to be a Swiss citizen officially, FINE! IT'S NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS, you don't own her, and she doesn't owe you anything! Yeesh! :-p
