Demi Lovato, Rehab: Singer Finds Unexpected Benefit

Demi Lovato has found another positive outcome from her stint in rehab -- she'll never again be a clingy girlfriend! The "Skyscraper" singer has been surprisingly open about the time she spent in rehab a few years ago to deal with multiple mental issues that were plaguing her.

After her recovery, the singer opted to stay on track with the program and live mostly in a sober house. And in the latest issue of Cosmo on Campus, Demi shares that she has high hopes for the future -- including a love life that will be stronger due to her experiences.

"I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I am in a relationship with, instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous," said "The X Factor" judge.

The 20-year-old seems to have adopted a great perspective on how to balance her life, especially as a celebrity who is constantly in the spotlight.

"It is very unhealthy when girls devote all of their time to a guy and forget their friends and family," she said. "I did that. I was always looking for distractions because I was so afraid of being alone."

In the past, the pop star has dated both Joe Jonas of the Jonas Brothers and actor Wilmer Valderrama, but both relationships ended in break ups. Is she finally ready for something more serious?

"I can finally trust and love and be a better person for the man I am in a relationship with, instead of being a clingy girlfriend or getting jealous," said the Unbroken creator.

Here's hoping there's new love on the horizon for Demi!

The focus for her first sober year should be on a good relationship with herself, not on who to date next. When she gets that down pat, she'll stay sober.

You can tell when she is balanced, she doesn't do that creepy top and bottom teeth together fake smile! Really. After seeing that on her I knew she was in trouble. So very phony. I'm glad she is recovering. Guys are fun and nice but they are a dine a dozen, so be paticular with who you share yourself. You aren't ever going to be "alone".

A pity she had to do rehab. She was doing so well with her Disney show.

She wasn't doing well at all. She was trying to look like she was. For some, rehab is a life saver. No shame to get help.
