Nicki Minaj, Kimberly Caldwell: Former 'Idol' Contestant Sounds Off on New Judge

Kimberly Caldwell has a unique perspective on "American Idol."

The singer was the seventh place finalist on season two of the reality show, and as a victim of Simon Cowell's trademark sharp tongue, Kimberly knows firsthand the tough love that many contestants experience.

In a guest blog for E! Online, the former entertainment correspondent called out another judge who, in Simon's absence, is giving the latest batch of "AI" contestants the criticism they need.

"I also have to say I enjoyed Nicki [Minaj] and her strong opinions," Kimberly wrote. "I will forever miss Simon Cowell and his brutal honesty, so I appreciate Nicki and her controversial statements."

Despite Simon's often tear-inducing comments, Kimberly claimed the unapologetic judge's insults were ultimately a favor.

"Something I learned from this show is that, post-Idol, the music industry is a lot more real than the television judges, so they are really doing the contestants a favor by preparing them for the honest truth," she continued, adding, "We have a fabulous bunch of girls that are making their mark on Idol this year-now it's all about who can take the pressure in stride and stand out in the pack! Good luck, ladies!"

I want to know why Nicki Minaj appears to not like sitting next to Randy. In Session 3, Randy turned to talk to Nicki and he touched her left arm - she rapidly pulled away with a disgusted look on her face. Session 4, last night (Feb 28), her body was turned toward Keith Urban for over half of the show....Has Randy made an in appropriate move on her? She is very obnoxious!!!! and I think a detriment to the show... She should have class like Mariah Carey!!
