Katy Perry, John Mayer, 'X Factor' Judges? Simon Cowell Reportedly Offers Large Amount to Couple

Could John Mayer and Katy Perry being filling the empty judges' seats on "X Factor"?

According to UK's Now Magazine, Simon Cowell has reportedly offered the couple $20 million to join the panel.

A source tells the mag, "Simon sees it as a brilliant pairing. Katy's sassy, honest and a huge star, while John's more reserved. Having them as rivals would be genius -- if they had on-air bust-ups, it'd be unmissable."

Katy has some experience being a "X Factor" judge, as she was a guest judge for the show's UK version in 2010 and can even take some credit for helping One Direction find success. It was Katy who decided to send through a then-unknown Niall Horan to boot camp, and the two are still friendly to this day.

Since Britney Spears and L.A. Reid announced they both wouldn't be returning to "X Factor," Simon has been trying to find the perfect person to fill the seats -- and he reportedly thinks John and Katy are the perfect solution.

"Hiring Britney Spears didn't work but this would be the first time a couple appeared on a judging panel together," the source says.

It's still not confirmed if Demi Lovato is returning to the show.

Besides John and Katy, Pink's reportedly another musician Simon is considering for the judging gig.

Cowell should spend less time trying to land notorious (but maybe not qualified) judges and more time reworking an absolutely miserable show format. Sooooooooooo tired. X Factor should just become an ex-factor.

Seems like every week there is an article about who the next judges for "X Factor" will be. But how many of them really have the musical savvy to judge well? It takes more than having hit albums to fairly judge the work of others.

Kind of liked the X-factor last season. It seems a bit livelier, and moves along faster than American Idol, which is pretty awful this season...

Two major music superstars are bad enough, but a real life couple is an epic fail. They will completely hog the spotlight and put Simon in the shade. Why are only artists considered as judges these days? There should be a balanced panel consisting of Simon, one or two inactive or obscure artists, and one or two who represent other sectors of the industry, such as a producer, another label exec, a radio DJ, a music critic, etc. Bring back the days when judges made a name for themselves as judges rather than coming in already famous.
