Despite the fact that VH1 dubbed Toni the #6 Greatest One Hit Wonder of All Time, the singer actually went on to have two more hits after 'Mickey.' The single 'Shoppin' From A to Z' off her first album 'Word of Mouth' made it onto Billboard Hot 100 chart. A year later in 1983, Basil scored another Hot 100 hit with the single 'Over My Head,' which also reached #4 on the U.S. Dance charts.
But music was never Toni's first love, dance was! The prolific choreographer walked away from her recording career in the early '80s and went on to find much success in a different section of the music industry. Around the time of her 'Mickey' fame, Toni choreographed and co-directed the video for 'Once in a Lifetime' by the Talking Heads. The talented star also worked with David Bowie to choreograph his Diamond Dogs and Glass Spider Tours.
Recently, Toni has won acclaim for her work with
Bette Midler on the diva's Las Vegas spectacle, 'The Show Girl Must Go On.' Basil was the Choreographer and Dance Director for the hit, which was subsequently turned into a HBO special that was nominated for an Emmy Award.
Toni also rounded out her resume in the past few years as a guest judge for the numerous dance shows like BRAVO's 'Step It Up and Dance,' FOX's 'So You Think You Can Dance' and LOGO's 'RuPaul's Drag U.' For her commitment to the art of movement, Basil was presented an American Choreography Award as a Lifetime Achievement Innovator.
The song that brought Toni the most fame also continues to inspire artists with its infectious and upbeat hook. Back in 2000, the Irish pop group
B*Witched covered the classic on the soundtrack to 'Bring It On.' Then, just last year,
Katy Perry sampled the track for her single, 'Peacock.'
"
Oh Mickey you're so fine, you're so fine you blow my mind. Hey Mickey! Hey Mickey!" If those lyrics don't immediately spark images of spunky cheerleader
Toni Basil in your mind, well ... you probably weren't around in the '80s. But for those of us who were, Basil's iconic video for her biggest hit is as synonymous with that decade as pet rocks or Pac-Man.
Undoubtedly her biggest Billboard achievement,
Basil's 'Mickey' went platinum or gold in the U.S., England, Australia and Canada.
The song also knocked Lionel Richie off the Hot 100's #1 slot in December of 1982 -- which was a pretty big deal back in those days!
So what ever became of Toni after she hung up her pom-poms? Let's just say she didn't exactly shrink back into the shadows! Click below to see where Basil is today.

JoJo fans out there -- a remix of her recent hit '
Disaster'! After listening to the single, we were shocked -- it's a totally different sound than the original. "I'm excited to present to you the DJ Kue version of my 'Disaster' video," JoJo tells AOL Music. "I love this remix and hope you will enjoy it, too."

Since the untimely
passing of Whitney Houston, the singer's
ex-husband Bobby Brown has caused nothing but drama. First came the rumors that Brown's beef with Whitney's family had lead to him being
blacklisted from Houston's funeral. Then, after Bobby was invited to attend the event, he brought a huge entourage and left in a huff over a
ridiculous seating dispute.
Now, new reports are surfacing today that paint Brown in an even worse light. According to sources, the singer is once again
shopping around a tell-all book he penned about
