In October 2010, pop idol Justin Bieber posted a video of himself freestyling over Cam’ron and Vado’s 'Speaking in Tongues.' He took to Twitter, saying: “Who knew i could rap lol.. my alter-ego rap name is Shawty Mane.. hah." Shawty Mane became an instant trending topic and went on to appear on Chris Brown’s 'Boy in Detention' mixtape, but the Biebs admitted that he had no long-term plans for his rap career and persona. “Shawty Mane is just like a funny character,” he told MTV. “You know Justin Bieber is not a rapper, and it would be lame if I came out rapping. It’s lame anyway because I’m like a pop singer, but I thought it was funny, I just did it as a joke. It wasn’t like anything serious.” Still, he hasn’t ruled out resurrecting the Mane for future jokes and/or projects.
