Combining Guided by Voices and Superchunk's best pop moments with the bite of early Elvis Costello and The Attractions, these Knoxville, Tenn. rockers hit MTV pay dirt with their 1996 single 'Sucked Out.' Lead by a gifted songwriter named John Davis, Superdrag were once tagged with the awful "Next big thing" label, but after their next album, 1998's 'Head Trip in Every Key,' failed to connect with the general public, the group was dropped by Elektra Records. After a handful of releases on an indie label, Superdrag went their separate ways in the early '00s. The band has since reunited for some sporadic touring and in 2009 released 'Industry Giants,' their fifth studio album. -- CR
