Back to Bullied Celebrities: Victims-Turned-Advocates Use Their Fame to Fight Back

At 18-years-old, Demi Lovato entered treatment for eating disorders, self-mutilation and depression. Now 20, the former child star admits bullying played a role in her struggles, telling PEOPLE magazine, "People would write hate petitions [about me] and send them around to be signed. They'd have CD-bashing parties of my demos. They'd come to my house, stand across the street and yell things. It was a very emotional time for me, and all I wanted to do was get away."
Luckily, the pop star has managed to turn her life around, and has been working hard to prevent other young girls from suffering at the hands of bullies. She's become the ambassador for Secret's Mean Stinks campaign, encouraging girls to "gang up for good."
