This nightclub located in West Hollywood, Calif. on the Sunset Strip opened in 1964 and was a venue where many musicians found luck at, as their performances here jump-started their success. Frank Zappa's the Mothers of Invention got a record deal based on their performance here, and Metallica bassist Cliff Burton was discovered by the band following a show he did there. System of a Down can also credit Whisky a Go-Go, where they performed one of their earliest recorded gigs when they were unsigned. Their performances were noticed by producer Rick Rubin, who asked them to keep in touch with them. Rubin later signed them to his American/Columbia Records label and they recorded in his studio. The club is still open -- find out more info here and here.
