Willie Nelson and Terri Clark are two musicians who shined in the spotlight at this "honky tonk" bar in Nashville, Tenn. and got lucky once performing there. After singing and meeting with Ray Price there, Willie got his break by playing in his band, the Cherokee Cowboys. Willie actually received his first songwriting gig ever after singing at Tootsie's, which shares its success story and legacy on their site.
Country artist Terri Clark also got lucky at Tootsie's, where she met record producer and singer Keith Stegall shortly after first performing there in 1987. He gave her advice to "not give up" and in 1994, he signed her to PolyGram/Mercury Records when he became an executive there. Other artists who performed there in the early days were Patsy Cline, Mel Tillis, Kris Kristofferson, Waylon Jennings, Roger Miller and more.
