Justin's YouTube Videos Got Him Discovered
Getty
Justin Bieber is the poster child for YouTube-launched careers, but it was purely by luck that his cover videos were discovered by former So So Def marketing exec and future manager Scoot Braun in 2007. Bieber's mom uploaded footage to YouTube of her 12-year-old son's performance of Ne-Yo's 'So Sick' from a local singing competition, along with other performance videos of her prodigy child, in order to share with family and friends. While searching for videos of a different singer, Braun clicked on one of Bieber's videos by accident. The surprise discovery led Braun to track down the theater Bieber performed at in one of the videos, his school and finally, his mother. Within a week of meeting Braun, Bieber was singing for Usher and signed to his label with Scooter, Raymond Braun Media Group (RBMG).
