Back to Biggest Transformations in Music
Beastie Boys

Mike D, MCA and Ad-Rock have come a long way from their beginnings in a Brooklyn hardcore punk band. The Beastie Boys switched genres in the early-'80s, first gaining notoriety for '(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party),' which is probably one of the goofiest creations in hip-hop history. They come off as a trio of jerk-off jokers in the video, mugging for the camera while yelling about booze, chicks and dumb parents. But over the course of the next 20 or so years, the Beastie Boys would transform themselves into respected (and chart-topping) musicians. Those former dufus novelty rappers have surprisingly ended up as elder statesmen of the hip-hop world.
