Back to Spiritual Singers: Musicians Who've Discussed Their Faith

In December 2011, the "American Idol" season 7 runner-up announced that he was taking a break from music to embark on a two-year full-time Mormon mission. The singer, who is
a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, explained how he made the decision. "It's not because someone told me I was supposed to do it and not because I no longer want to do music anymore," he said. "It's because it's what I feel I need to do next in my life." In his memoir, David also wrote about his strong faith. "Yes, I've worked hard; and yes, I may have achieved a certain level of success -- but I'm very clear about the fact that none of it would be worth it without doing the things that keep me close to God," he said.
